Newcastle United have had a disappointing start to the new Premier League season and are without a win in their opening four fixtures, while they also lost to Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup.
But Rafael Benitez’s side have had to play Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City already in the league, losing all of them by 2-1 scorelines.
A reoccurring issue is beginning to crop up for the Magpies, as they don’t look like a free-flowing side that can chalk up a load of goals to blow teams away.
Newcastle’s top scorer from last season was attacker Ayoze Perez with 10 goals in all competitions and Benitez could do with him getting back to his best quickly.
The 25-year-old has made a slow start to the new campaign and is still waiting to open his goalscoring account.
He was a linchpin in the 2017/18 season by popping up with crucial goals, something he may need to do again to help solve the shortage of firepower at St James’ Park.
Perez usually plays in the pocket behind the striker, but has also been deployed a couple of times out wide.
He has the individual quality to impact a game for Newcastle and the key for him is to find some consistency.
Meanwhile, Newcastle also need the likes of Joselu, Salomon Rondon and Yoshinori Muto to be finding the back of the net on a regular occasion.
