Newcastle coach Ben Dawson confirms interest in Elias Sorensen

Elias Sorensen scored as Newcastle United’s youngsters secured their spot in the next round of the Checkatrade Trophy.

In comments reported by the Chronicle, Ben Dawson has confirmed that there is plenty of interest in Newcastle youngster Elias Sorensen after he scored his 18th goal of the campaign on Tuesday.

Sorensen has been lethal for the Magpies’ youngsters this term, and he sent another message to Rafa Benitez by adding to his tally in the Checkatrade Trophy clash with Macclesfield Town at St James’ Park.

Newcastle booked their place in round three of the competition as they beat Sol Campbell’s men 5-3 on penalties after the game finished 1-1.

And after the contest, Dawson suggested that the Magpies can probably expect to receive offers for the young striker in the near future, with his situation being monitored by plenty of sides.

“He has generated a lot of interest here and with other clubs,” he said, as reported by the Chronicle.

“We need to sit down with the manager and plan his next move.”

It would arguably be good for Sorensen to go out and get a chance on loan. If Benitez has no plans to use him in the first-team anytime soon, then getting minutes elsewhere may be beneficial to his long-term development.

Having said that, while he is scoring goals at a remarkable rate and high on confidence, then perhaps the Magpies would be better off holding onto him for the time-being – especially as Benitez may still be waiting to find out what resources he will have to work with in January.
