Curtis Good signed for Newcastle United back in 2012, but is still waiting to make his first league appearance.

He might have to wait a little while longer.

The Australian’s spell at the club has been wrecked by injury, and yesterday the 24-year-old picked up another one for the under-23s.

Good was substituted early in the second half as Newcastle’s side lost to Reading in the Premier League Cup quarter-finals on Monday, with coach Peter Beardsley concerned.

He told the club’s official website he hoped it was not a significant setback, but could not offer any guarantees.

Good said: “Losing Curtis early on in the second half was a big blow to us, and hopefully it’s something minor.

“That, for me, is the big disappointment of the game really. It would have been nice to win, but losing someone like Curtis is probably the biggest disappointment.

“He’s been injury-free for a while now, and has been outstanding for a while, so it’s disappointing for him. Hopefully it’s something minor.”

Good’s under-23 performances were rewarded earlier in 2017 when Rafa Benitez called him up to the first team for the FA Cup earlier this season.

That did not end well with Newcastle losing to Oxford United, and Good still waits for his first league appearance for the club.
