Newcastle United have today confirmed the signing of former Liverpool talent Niall Brookwell.

Wigan-born Brookwell, 18, joined Liverpool at the age of eight and even played for their Under-18’s at the age of just 15.

Brookwell now heads into the Newcastle academy setup, and will be hoping to play first-team football in the future.

Primarily a midfielder, Brookwell does also have some experience of playing as a centre back, bringing valuable versatility.

Sunderland were also keen on Brookwell, with the Sunderland Echo reporting last month that Newcastle had pipped them.

It now seems that other clubs wanted him too, with one line in Newcastle’s announcement catching the eye.

Newcastle claim that Brookwell turned down offers from other Premier League clubs, as well as Football League sides in favour of the Magpies.

This hopefully means that Brookwell has a big future ahead of him on Tyneside, and he will be looking to prove Liverpool wrong for letting him go this summer.
