Callum Hudson-Odoi is set to join Bayer Leverkusen on loan as Newcastle United will miss out on a deal for the Chelsea winger.

Chelsea look set for something of a late-window spending spree to bolster Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

One versatile attacker has arrived already with Raheem Sterling joining from Manchester City earlier this summer.

Chelsea are now going in for Everton’s Anthony Gordon, potentials paying an enormous fee to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

Gordon potentially arriving – coupled with the Sterling deal – means Hudson-Odoi wants to leave on loan.

Hudson-Odoi, 21, started just 11 Premier League games last season and hasn’t kicked a ball in the league this season.

Hudson-Odoi is in danger of having his development seriously stalled by staying at Chelsea and a loan move has been sanctioned.

The Sun claimed last week that Hudson-Odoi was closing in on a loan move to Newcastle United.

Strong relations between Newcastle and Chelsea, plus the Magpies’ need for a new winger, meant this rumour did make plenty of sense.

However, Hudson-Odoi isn’t heading to Newcastle and isn’t even staying in the Premier League.

That’s because the London Evening Standard report that Hudson-Odoi has chosen Bayer Leverkusen as his next club, picking them over Newcastle and Southampton.

It’s stated that Hudson-Odoi gave careful consideration to all offers but has decided that Leverkusen is the move for him.

Hudson-Odoi now follows in the footsteps of Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham in heading to Germany to continue his development.

Leverkusen should give Hudson-Odoi plenty of first-team football and he will now be able to learn from a quality winger in Moussa Diaby.

This is a blow for Newcastle, who must now go back to the drawing board once again in search of a new winger, but may still fancy a Chelsea wide man in Christian Pulisic.
