Newcastle are set for talks with Castore as they potentially look to end their agreement with their kit suppliers in search of a bigger deal.

The Magpies are looking to build rapidly due to the Saudi Arabian-led takeover competed last year.

That means big signings will be coming in; the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier, Sven Botman and Alexander Isak.

Yet it also means growing the club off the pitch and commercial decisions will have to be made for Newcastle to truly challenge the top six.

Newcastle are set for talks with Castore

The Chronicle report that Newcastle are set for talks with kit manufacturers Castore.

It’s stated that Newcastle’s new owners have been stunned by the lack of income driven by deals struck under Mike Ashley.

Shirt sponsors Fun88 – who won’t be on Newcastle shirts next season after the new owners scrapped their deal – are only bringing in £7million-a-year.

The deal with kit suppliers Castore is only worth £5million-a-year for Newcastle and it’s unclear just how long that agreement is in place for moving forward.

New CEO Darren Eales is now seeking talks with Castore over their agreement and the writing may be on the wall after the Fun88 agreement was ended prematurely.

Newcastle can’t just back out – they need an agreement with Castore to terminate their partnership early and that may well be brought up in talks.

That income just isn’t enough for Newcastle if they want to move forward on and off the pitch.

The comparison made in the Chronicle piece is that Arsenal’s five-year deal with Adidas is worth a huge £300million.

A five-year deal between Newcastle and Castore would be worth just £25million.

That shows the gulf Newcastle are now trying to bridge under their new owners and it’s telling that that Peter Silverstone – Arsenal’s chief commercial officer when that Adidas deal was struck – is heading to Newcastle.

Newcastle may well look to get out of both Fun88 and Castore deals for next summer, teeing up new agreement for huge cash with higher-profile brands.
