Newcastle United are now unlikely to sign Roma winger Carles Perez after talks over a deal failed to bring an agreement.
That’s according to Il Tempo, who claim that Perez is now ‘destined to stay’ at Roma beyond the end of the summer transfer window.
Newcastle were allegedly willing to pay up to €14million (£12million) to sign Perez with Steve Bruce desperate for later additions.
However, the negotiations haven’t ‘taken off’, so Perez is now set to stay in the Italian capital instead of heading to Tyneside.
Perez, 23, emerged in the Barcelona ranks after arriving from neighbours Espanyol in 2012.
Primarily a right-sided winger who likes to cut inside onto his left foot, Perez scored 13 times in 55 games for Barcelona’s B team but failed to make an impact in the first team.

Perez joined Roma on loan in 2019 and made the move permanent a year later after two goals in 17 games. Last term, Perez scored three in 30 outings.
The Spaniard seems unlikely to play a key role under Jose Mourinho this season, and that may give Newcastle hope of resurrecting a deal closer to the deadline.
For now though, it looks like Perez won’t end up joining Newcastle on loan or permanently.
