Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles has been speaking to the club’s official website, and offered high praise for new signings Christian Atsu and Daryl Murphy.

The pair moved to St James’ Park during the summer and were two of 12 new signings brought to the club by Rafa Benitez during the transfer window.

Lascelles told nufc.co.uk, ahead of his sides huge Championship clash against Derby County, how the new faces at the club are creating a buzz in training, and reserved special praise for Atsu and Murphy:

“With the boys we have signed – you know Murphy was banging in goals in training today, Atsu is a great signing – he’s one we want who’s unbelievable. So you know it’s really confident, it’s really positive and we are looking forward to this game – we just can’t wait to get started.”

Atsu, 24, joined the Magpies on a season-long loan on transfer deadline day, while the 33-year-old Murphy joined the North East giants on a two-year deal.

Benitez will be hoping that the pair can help his side continue their fine run of form.

After Newcastle made a slow start to life in the Championship, they have recovered fantastically well and recorded three consecutive league victories, leaving them 4th in the table.

The Magpies travel to the iPro Stadium to take on Derby tomorrow in the 17:30 kick-off.
