Jamaal Lascelles was substituted by Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez on Saturday against Luton Town.

Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles has allayed huge fears over his availability ahead of the Toon’s clash against Swansea City, by telling the Shields Gazette that he will return to training on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old was withdrawn in the 30th minute during Saturday’s 3-1 win in the third round of the FA Cup against League Two high-flyers Luton Town, as he felt a tweak in his groin.
With the Toon already one goal to the good, the former Nottingham Forest ace was withdrawn which had worried fans ahead of what is a crucial relegation six-pointer against Swansea City on Saturday.

But Lascelles has removed concern by stating that his substitution was just a precaution, and has told fans that he will return to training on Tuesday – giving the defender plenty of time to recover before Saturday’s bout.
“I’m fine. I felt it go a little bit, and took no chances. “I just wanted to make sure we won. I’m fine for next week. It’s nothing really, and I’ll be training Tuesday,” Lascelles said.
“I felt it a bit and didn’t want to make it worse. I think I made the right decision to come off and get it right for Swansea.”

Lascelles has been absolutely crucial to Newcastle’s hopes of avoiding relegation, helping Newcastle earn 41 per cent of available points when playing – 21 from a possible 51. Without him, they have drawn once and lost four times.
Newcastle will be desperate to beat Carlos Carvalhal’s side on Saturday, with the added advantage of playing at St. James’ Park likely to make them favourites for the match. It remains to be seen if Lascelles will return as quickly as he claims.
