Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are set to miss out on Lille central defender Sven Botman to AC Milan.
That’s according to Fabrizio Romano.
The well-known and well-respected journalist is reporting on Twitter this morning that AC Milan are “really close” to securing the services of Botman for next season and beyond.
The Italian giants are in advanced talks with the defending French champions, and Botman himself is ready to accept their proposal.
The Times reported last month that Newcastle are ready to make a bid of £27 million for the 22-year-old Dutchman, having tried to sign him in the January transfer window.
West Ham United have also been linked with the youngster.

AC Milan over Newcastle United for Sven Botman
In our opinion, Botman moving to Milan instead of Newcastle does not come as a surprise to us.
Milan are Italian and European giants who could win Serie A this season and are on their way to recovering old glory.
Botman earns £18,000 per week as salary at Lille at the moment (SalarySport), and Milan could easily bump it up.
Now, of course, Newcastle are a wealthy club as well, but Milan are ready to challenge for major trophies and re-establish themselves as a force in Europe right now.
