Newcastle boss says he has verbal agreements from two players

Steve Bruce has revealed that Newcastle United will be keeping Andy Carroll and Javier Manquillo until the end of the season.

Quite a few permanent and loan players at St James’s Park are technically coming to the end of their contracts.

But with the season being extended due to the global health crisis, the campaign is going to run longer than the expirations of their existing deals.

Carroll and Manquillo are two players out of contract at Newcastle at the end of this month.

But Bruce, speaking to a press conference as quoted by The Chronicle, claims that he has verbal agreements from both players to stick around until the 2019-20 campaign is completed.

This is particularly good news regarding Manquillo, who has looked a different player at Newcastle over the past 12 months or so.

It isn’t the worst thing in the world if Carroll stays on either, given that Joelinton has struggled in a big way since joining the Magpies in a £40 million deal last summer, scoring just the one Premier League goal in 29 games.

Bruce’s side resume their Premier League season on Sunday with a visit of Sheffield United.
