Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has suggested that a decision on whether Dwight Gayle will feature against Cardiff City this weekend is still a couple of days away, the Chronicle reports.
The Magpies have been without their top goalscorer for their last two games in all competitions after he picked up a hamstring injury in training last week, according to the Chronicle.

And while Benitez confirmed that the 26-year-old is now back training again, he suggested that they may decide against throwing him back in for the game against the Bluebirds.
“He was training but we have to be cautious with him. We will see in two or three days,” he said, as reported by the Chronicle.

“We have some time and we will see how he feels. At the moment he is training and improving little by little.”
Although Gayle has been sensational this term, Newcastle have shown in his absence that they have more than enough fire power to cope without him.

Aleksandar Mitrovic has scored four times in the last two games while Ayoze Perez appears to be finding his best form after initially struggling to cope with the demands of the Championship.
And with Cardiff just one place outside the division’s relegation zone, Benitez will surely have more than enough faith in the players he does have available if Gayle fails to prove his fitness in time.
