The Newcastle United new-boy will have to adapt quickly to the ferocious pace of the Premier League.
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez addressed the media today, ahead of his side’s clash with Wolves on Monday night, and shared the only reservation that he has about club record signing Miguel Almiron, as quoted by Sky Sports.
The 24-year-old joined the Magpies from Atlanta United on transfer deadline day, for a fee believed to be worth somewhere in the region of £20 million, and the Toon Army are expecting great things from their new recruit.
The Paraguayan managed to rack up an impressive 22 goals and 21 assists in 70 appearances in the MLS, all from the attacking midfield position, and that kind of attacking output will surely help Newcastle move away from any kind of relegation trouble.
Benitez urged caution, however, when speaking to reporters today, suggesting that Almiron will need time to adapt to the pace and physicality of English football, as quoted by Sky Sports:
“He is fine, he is training okay, he’s fit, he has good stamina and pace. He is quite mobile, quite dynamic so he is okay. Now the question mark is what will happen with the physicality of the Premier League. What’s the difference between the MLS and the Premier League? All these things we know but we will see how he copes with that but at the moment he is okay with the training sessions.”
Almiron is clearly a top class player, but there have been more highly-regarded stars than the Paraguayan who have come to the Premier League and failed to settle due to its intense and robust nature.
The 24-year-old does seem to have the whole package, however, and Newcastle fans should be confident that their new signing will go on to become a legend on Tyneside.
