Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has told the Chronicle that Adam Armstrong has already spoken to some clubs about the possibility of joining them on loan this season.
The 19-year-old is arguably one of the brightest prospects within the Magpies’ squad currently. But with Dwight Gayle, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez all seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order, it appears that Armstrong is destined to spend the majority of this campaign once again out on loan.

And Benitez confirmed that the forward – who recently agreed a new four-year deal at St James’ Park (via Chronicle) – has been attracting plenty of attention.
“He [Armstrong] knows that we’ll sign an experienced striker and has been in contact with some clubs that can maybe get him on loan,” he told the Chronicle.

“I think he is doing well and he has confidence that he can do well, but the problem when you are in the Championship and you want to go up quickly is that you need experience.”
Despite Benitez confirming that Newcastle wanted to sign another forward before the window shuts, it is perhaps a surprise that Armstrong is being allowed to leave.
The England under-19 international was sensational for Coventry City last term – scoring 20 goals in 40 League One games – so would surely have something to offer his parent club as they look to get promoted at the first time of asking.
They arguably have enough depth in their ranks already for Armstrong to be given the role of being the side’s fourth choice striker, and that role may give him the best chance of realising his potential ahead of what Benitez will be hoping is an immediate return to the top flight.
