Jesus Gamez has barely featured for Newcastle United since his summer move.
Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez
Speaking to reporters at his pre-match press conference, Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez provided an update on summer signing Jesus Gamez, claiming that he hopes to have the Spaniard back in contention for selection after the international break, as quoted by the Chronicle.
The 31-year-old moved to Tyneside from Atletico Madrid in July on a two-year deal for a fee believed to be in the region of £3 million.
Gamez has featured only twice for the Magpies this season though, after a succession of niggling injuries, and has made only one start for his new club.

Benitez shed some light on Gamez’ situation, when speaking to the media, and quoted by the Chronicle:
“He has a problem with the Achilles tendon. I was talking with him this week. He was with the physio receiving some treatment. We have the international break. We will have some time. Hopefully, he can be a little bit better after that.”
Newcastle United’s Deandre Yedlin in action
Luckily for Benitez, he has assembled a squad at St James’ Park well capable of dealing with any kind of long term absence in pretty much every position, with DeAndre Yedlin likely to be rotated with Gamez throughout the course of the season.
The North-East outfit head to the New York Stadium to take on Rotherham today, in a game that could see Newcastle rise to top of the table, should Norwich City fail to win at Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Huddersfield lose at Ipswich Town.
