Newcastle Under-23s beat Blyth Spartans 7-2 to make the final four of the competition.

On Tuesday night, Newcastle United Under-23s ran out 7-2 winners over Blyth Spartans to advance into the semi-finals of the Northumberland Senior Cup.
The Magpies began brightly against their much-changed opponents, the visitors making ten changes from their FA Trophy tie against Leyton Orient on Saturday.
Right-back Lewis Cass, making his first appearance since suffering a knee injury in November, was the architect for the opener with a low cross into the path of Yannick Toure, who duly poked home.
A total of seven goals in the opening 45 minutes, including three for Newcastle in the space of two minutes, saw the hosts threaten to hand out a comprehensive beating to a side forced into widescale changes and thus weakened.
At the break it was 5-2, while the second half proved relatively more sedate, though Kelland Watts nonetheless added his second and Newcastle’s sixth on the hour mark before sealing his hat-trick at the death.

Although Blyth’s weakened team made it less of an even match-up, it was still a good display from Newcastle, particularly from Watts and brace scorer Toure, and there was plenty of positivity among the Toon Army on Twitter:
