Newcastle United and Chelsea are both interested in signing the Real Sociedad forward.
Newcastle United have already made a bid for Real Sociedad forward Willian Jose, according to a report from Spanish publication Marca, but unfortunately for the Magpies, Chelsea have allegedly entered the race for the Brazilian.
If the Toon somehow manage to win the race for the 26-year-old, though, it would finally give Rafa Benitez something to smile about, after what has been somewhat of a frustrating summer transfer window thus far.
Willian Jose was in fine form for Sociedad last season, scoring 20 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions in Spain, and he really would be an exceptional signing for Newcastle.
The lively striker would provide Rafa with an entirely different option to what he currently possesses in the final third, and he would provide the Magpies with a real cutting edge to their attacking play.
Beating Chelsea to his signature, though, will not be easy of course.
One big advantage that Newcastle will have in the race for Willian’s signature, however, is the fact that they will be able to offer the Sociedad man regular first-team action – something that he definitely would not be guaranteed at Stamford Bridge.
A big problem for both clubs is the 26-year-old’s alleged release clause, with Marca claiming that it is set at €65 million (£58 million).
So unless Sociedad lower their demands, Newcastle will definitely be out of the running.
If the Toon can somehow find a way of bringing the striker to St James’ Park, though, it could turn out to be the most significant piece of business that they have conducted in a very long time.
