The Southampton ace would be an excellent addition to the Newcastle United squad this summer.
Magpies boss Rafa Benitez will be looking to bolster his options in the wide attacking areas this summer, as he looks to add some pace to his front-line, ahead of what will be an extremely challenging Premier League campaign for the Toon.
With this in mind, the Spaniard should consider a move for Saints winger Nathan Redmond – a player who Newcastle were first interested in signing way back in 2013, according to the Chronicle.
Southampton’s Nathan Redmond celebrates
The 23-year-old joined Southampton from Norwich City in the summer of 2016, for a fee believed to be in the region of £10 million, and has gone on to impress at St Mary’s, scoring seven goals in 37 Premier League outings for the south coast outfit.
And Redmond possesses all of the qualities that the Magpies squad are currently bereft of. He is incredibly quick, and technically proficient. The manner in which he runs with the ball at pace is exceptionally hard to defend against, and he would undoubtedly add a certain level of potency to Newcastle’s attacking play.
The England international would also provide fantastic competition for the likes of Matt Ritchie and Christian Atsu in the wide attacking positions at St James’ Park.
One major problem the Tyneside outfit will face, if they decide to make a move for Redmond, will be the Saints’ reluctance to sell one of their key men.
As has so often been the case in football, however, money talks, and if Newcastle can come up with a lucrative offer, Southampton might find it hard to rejects their advances, especially with their history of selling their star players.
