Well, it was a fairly disappointing day for Newcastle United.
The Magpies dropped two massive points in this afternoon’s draw with fellow relegation candidate Watford at St James’s Park.
As a result, Newcastle, who looked to be climbing out of the relegation zone at one point, are still in the bottom three.
However, on a positive note, United are potentially closing in on making their third signing of the January transfer window.
With Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood now at Newcastle, Eddie Howe’s outfit will definitely need additional reinforcements.
And according to Sky Italia, they have already agreed personal terms with Robin Gosens of Atalanta which, if true, is encouraging because it illustrates an open communication avenue between the club and player in question.
There is, however, a substantial catch to this transfer rumour.
Injured
And that is, well, the German winger is actually injured.
Gosens hasn’t kicked a football for the Italian outfit since way back in September but according to the same Sky report, Newcastle aren’t deterred by this.
Even by the Magpies’ standards, signing an injured player – and one whose value is £25 million – is a massive risk.
Not only that, but United’s first two signings of the winter have a massive amount of Premier League experience which, for a relegation battle, is invaluable.
Compare that to Gosens who, despite being a brilliant winger, has never played for an English outfit.
With zero experience of the Premier League – and an injury – it’s probably fair to say Newastle supporters will be hoping this transfer rumour is inaccurate.
Honestly, Saudi Public Investment Fund and Howe should focus solely on players with experience of English football – and fit ones!
