Clinton Morrison has said on Sky Sports News (12:30pm, October 16, 2021) that Newcastle United could attract Antonio Conte to St. James’ Park if they pay him £1 million per week as salary.
The former Crystal Palace forward does not think that Conte will want to take charge of Newcastle right now.
However, the Sky Sports pundit believes that a salary of £1 million per month could entice the former Chelsea manager to go to St. James’ Park.
Morrison said: “Because they have got all this money at the moment, everyone’s excited. Conte… At the moment Conte wouldn’t want to come into a club where there is relegation battle.
“Yeah, maybe if you are giving him £1 million per week, then he will come. No one is going to turn that down.”
Could Antonio Conte to Newcastle happen now?
In our view, no.
No, we do not think that Conte will take charge of Newcastle if he is offered the job now.
Earlier this month, The Sun reported that the 52-year-old Italian tactician would turn down the Newcastle managerial job if he is offered.
We can understand why.
Yes, Newcastle now have the richest owners in club football in the world at the moment.
But, the team are struggling for survival in the Premier League.
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) will simply not be able to bring in world-class players in the January transfer window.
It will take time for PIF to bring elite players to Newcastle.
Conte is without a managerial role now, and he can wait for the perfect job to come up.
And no, we do not think that PIF will offer Conte £1 million.
No club in the world would offer any manager that kind of money.
