Newcastle United considered landing Andy Scott last year and he has now find himself ditched by Nottingham Forest.
The Magpies were looking to overhaul their football operation after the much-awaited takeover from PIF and co.
Newcastle were looking for a director of football and ended up finding one by securing Dan Ashworth from Brighton and Hove Albion.
A number of other options were considered though and Newcastle even looked towards a short-term appointment.

Newcastle United considered landing Andy Scott
The Daily Mail reported in December 2021 that Andy Scott was an option being considered by Newcastle.
Scott was a Brentford favourite as a player before managing the Bees as well as Rotherham United and Aldershot Town.
Scott moved away from coaching to then focus on recruitment in 2015, scouting for Brentford and Midtjylland before moving on to Watford.
A move to Swansea as Head of Recruitment materialised in 2019, but he decided to leave in December 2021.
That’s when a move to Newcastle was suggested but just a month later, he made a move to Nottingham Forest instead.
That was seen as a coup for Forest at the time and the move saw Scott reunite with Forest boss and former Swansea head coach Steve Cooper.
Scott was involved in Forest’s incredible recruitment spree over the summer as more than 20 players ended up arriving at the City Ground.
Forest haven’t made a great start to the season though and Scott has now met the axe of Evangelos Marinakis.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Forest have sacked both head of recruitment George Syrianos and scout Scott, seemingly pinning some of the blame for this poor start on them.
That will likely hurt for boss Cooper too given their history together but Scott’s record in the game means another job will surely be around the corner.
It’s unlikely that Newcastle will return with new interest and it’s funny how the game moves on.
Scott could have been part of Newcastle’s exciting project less than a year ago but now finds himself hoping for a new opportunity after being axed by Forest.
