Newcastle United could be on the verge of landing Andy Howe in a recruitment role, just a day after he confirmed his departure from Bournemouth.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Newcastle are now in advanced talks to bring Howe to St James’ Park.
Howe is the nephew of Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, and they worked together at Bournemouth.
Given the role of head of first team domestic player scouting at Bournemouth, Howe could now take on a similar role at Newcastle.
Howe actually confirmed his exit from Bournemouth in an emotional Instagram post on Sunday.
Howe noted that he is a Bournemouth lad and a Bournemouth fan, so leaving the club wasn’t an easy decision.
After suggesting it was time for a new challenge, few could have really expected Howe to be making such a rapid move.
It now seems that Howe is leaving Bournemouth because he is on the verge reuniting with his uncle up at Newcastle.
The Magpies have struggled to sort out their recruitment department since their takeover in October.
Nailing down a director of football has proven to be very hard work for Newcastle, with a number of candidates falling by the wayside.
Even when Newcastle brought in a consultant in Nick Hammond, his temporary deal was even more temporary than many expected; he left after just a week.
Newcastle have still managed to bring in Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood, but putting together a strong recruitment team is vital for the Magpies.
Howe could be a major building block towards that, possessing a great knowledge of talents around England.
With his uncle already in place at Newcastle, this move makes plenty of sense for Howe – and he joins just as the Magpies face a hectic final week of the transfer window, even if most of his work and planning will take place for the summer and beyond.
