Moussa Sissoko and Manuel Lanzini were superb this past weekend.
Newcastle United’s Moussa Sissoko and West Ham United star Manuel Lanzini produced the most successful take-ons of any Premier League midfielder this past weekend.
Lanzini has proven to be one of a number of excellent summer additions for the Hammers, featuring in seven Premier League matches to date and contributing with two goals and an assist.
Against rivals Crystal Palace on Saturday, the Argentine youngster topped off an excellent performance by netting his side’s winner with only a few minutes on the clock remaining.
Capable of playing through the middle or out wide, Lanzini has demonstrated his flamboyant ability on more than one occasion this season and Palace simply couldn’t deal with him.
| Team | Successful take-ons | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manuel Lanzini | West Ham | 6 | 90 |
| Moussa Sissoko | Newcastle | 6 | 90 |
| Mousa Dembélé | Tottenham | 5 | 90 |
As per the table provided by Opta Stats, the 22-year-old successfully pulled off as many as six dribbles – a figure matched only by one other Premier League midfielder this past weekend.
The other player to hit such a tally was Newcastle United’s inspirational midfielder Sissoko.
The Magpies’ ace was at his very best in an attacking sense against Norwich City, recording an astonishing three assists as his side crushed the Canaries 6-2 in a highly entertaining match.
Sissoko and his fellow teammates have vastly underperformed so far this season, yet when it all clicks together there is so much potential on offer and Norwich felt their full force on Sunday.
