Both Newcastle United and Watford could benefit greatly from swapping the two players.
Magpies boss Rafa Benitez is still desperately trying to secure the signing of an established striker, but he is working with one hand tied behind his back, due to limited funds being available to him.
A fantastic option for Newcastle would be Hornets hitman Troy Deeney, but the Spaniard will probably have to sell before he buys.
An easier option for the Toon, however, would be to offer Watford the services of Aleksandar Mitrović in exchange for the 29-year-old Birmingham-born ace.
Deeney possesses all of the qualities that Benitez is looking for in a striker. He is strong in the air, more than capable when playing with his back to goal, and has a tireless work ethic.
He is also no slouch in front of goal. His wealth of experience of playing in the English game, along with his combative nature makes him the perfect candidate to line up alongside Dwight Gayle, as part of a two-pronged attack for Newcastle.
As useful as Deeney would be for the Magpies, Mitrovic could be equally as effective for Marco Silva’s men. There is undoubtedly a top class player hiding somewhere in the Serbian, and if given the opportunity of regular first-team football at Vicarage Road, he could very well realise his true potential.
At 22, he is still young enough to adapt his game to the Premier League, and he could turn out to be a signing of real significance for the Hertfordshire outfit.
And with just eight days remaining until the transfer window slams shut, Newcastle and Watford should seriously consider a swap deal involving Deeney and Mitrovic, with the two strikers both likely to leave their respective clubs as it is anyway.
