Jose Enrique has labelled Leicester City’s ‘£50 million plus’ valuation for Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur transfer target James Maddison as ‘crazy’.

With Leicester now sitting in the Championship, they are preparing to lose a number of their star players and James Maddison is probably at the top of the list.

But upon hearing that the Midlands side want over £50 million for the midfielder, Enrique posted via his Instagram story: ‘With 1 year left? Are they crazy?’.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle are looking for that creative spark ahead of their return to the Champions League, as a player like Maddison would fit in very well alongside a Sandro Tonali.

But Tottenham, who have a new manager in Ange Postecoglou in the dugout, will say the same because it has been three years since Christian Eriksen’s exit, yet they still haven’t replaced him.

Both Spurs and Newcastle have been heavily linked with the 26-year-old, with questions of who is leading the race for his signature changing quicker than a politician’s opinion.

Is Maddison worth £50m?

For Leicester, the answer is yes because of how much he means to them, although, with the Midlands side in the Championship and with only one-year left on Maddison’s contract, then there is only so much legroom for them.

Either way, will the likes of Newcastle and Spurs pay over the odds for a player that they know will leave this summer?

This might be a case of waiting until the final few weeks of the window, then putting a lower fee of £50 million down on the table to Leicester, which they might have to accept because they can’t afford to keep him on board this summer.
