Werder Bremen have ruled out selling Marvin Ducksch in the January transfer window with Premier League duo Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United keen on the Bundesliga hitman.
Only a couple of months after losing last season’s Bundesliga (joint) Golden Boot winner Niclas Fullkrug to Borussia Dortmund, Werder Bremen appear to have little appetite for depriving themselves of Marvin Ducksch’s final-third talents too.
The late-blooming Ducksch, a Germany debutant this month at the age of 29, has picked up the baton from Fullkrug, an outstanding start to the campaign catching the eye of Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest (Sky’s Christian Falk and BILD).
As far as Werder sporting director Clemens Fritz is concerned, however, that interest matters little. Ducksch, he says, will end the season where he began it. At the Weserstadion.
Newcastle and Nottingham Forest like Marvin Ducksch

“A winter transfer is not an option for us,” Fritz tells Bild.
The £13 million-rated Ducksch already has ten goal contributions in the Bundesliga this season. His glorious free-kick against Wolfsburg a couple of weeks ago – clipping the woodwork on it’s way in, just to add to the aesthetics – helped earn him a place in Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany squad for the November international break.
A Germany debut for Werder Bremen ace
“(Ducksch) brings a good amount of madness, which we need. He can be very valuable” the former Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig boss explains to BuliNews.
“He has now got a very good record, and has helped to stabilise Bremen with his performances. His set pieces are very good and he’s a good finisher.”
In addition to his devilish dead-balls and his excellent ball-striking ability, Ducksch versatility is another key asset. He has thrived as a centre-forward this season but relished playing off the targetman Fullkrug last term, and it’s not hard to imagine Ducksch wreaking his unique brand of havoc alongside a Callum Wilson or a Taiwo Awoniyi.
