- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
HITC understands Everton and Newcastle are in talks over two separate deals this summer as the transfer window kicks off.
Both Everton and Newcastle United are aware of just how important this upcoming transfer window is with both sides have to worry about profit & sustainability rules this summer.
For the Toffees, the club received a points deductions due to an alleged breach of financial fair play rules, so this transfer window promises to be a key one.
To that end, HITC understands that Everton and Newcastle are in talks over deals for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Yankuba Minteh. The two deals are understood to be separate.

Newcastle keen on Calvert Lewin signing despite Everton’s reluctance to sell
Sources have told HITC that Calvert-Lewin’s future looks likely to lie away from Goodison Park this summer. HITC understands that the English forward has rebuffed advances from the club to talk over a new deal and with just one-year left on his deal at Goodison Park, they are reluctantly ready to sell.
Despite the financial problems the Toffees could potentially have to deal with this summer, the club were keen on holding onto Calvert-Lewin this summer.
However, Newcastle have now made their move for the English forward. Eddie Howe is understood to be a long-term admirer of the English forward and has tried to sign him before during his managerial career.
The two teams are now in talks over a deal. The Geordie side are understood to be confident of finalising a deal for Calvert-Lewin as the club will then look to move on Callum Wilson, who has had a torrid time of things with injury.
HITC previously reported that West Ham United were one of a number of clubs interested in the former Bournemouth striker.
Minteh could be moving to Goodison Park this summer from Newcastle
HITC can also confirm that talks have taken place for winger Yankuba Minteh – who was outstanding on-loan at Feyenoord.
Newcastle’s own PSR concerns means they are ready to cash in on the young Gambian who they only signed last year, and has never played for the club – but he was one of the top performers in the Eredivisie last season.
Sources have told HITC that Howe is one of the descenting voices behind the scenes with this deal.
The former Bournemouth manager was understood to have wanted to take a closer look at Minteh during pre-season but the club’s hierarchy have overruled the manager on this occasion.
Everton are not the only side keen on the 19-year-old Minteh as several clubs from around Europe are keen on the Gambian.
One aspect to note is that Newcastle aren’t the only side who Everton are talking to about multiple deals at once.
The Toffees confirmed the purchase of Aston Villa midfielder Tim Iroegbunam but they are also set to agree terms with the Midlands club that will see striker Lewis Dobbin move the other way.
