Newcastle United and Derby County wanted Glasgow Rangers star Josh Windass ahead of the January window, so perhaps the Ibrox side’s asking price should attract their attention.

The Daily Record has suggested that Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha has got his squad overhaul underway by sending out a list to other clubs surrounding which players are available to leave Ibrox this summer and their asking prices. And one startling asking price on that list should surely attract the attention of both Newcastle United and Derby County.

The Record reports that attacking midfielder Josh Windass will be available to leave Ibrox this summer for just £150,000 one year after his arrival from Accrington Stanley.

Though the 23-year-old was fairly inconsistent during his first season with the Gers and failed to score in the Scottish Premiership, there was surely enough there – he did contribute five assists in 21 appearances – to suggest that signing him for a low six-figure fee would be an absolute bargain, and thus, Newcastle and Derby should act.

The pair were linked with being interested in Windass ahead of the January transfer window by The Sun, and while they may have perhaps moved on from targeting him, his staggering asking price should surely leave them interested again.

Windass may still be some way short of being the finished article, but for £150,000, he would join the Magpies or the Rams under practically no pressure given how small the fee involved in a deal actually is.

And given that he arguably has the potential to develop considerably if given a chance, there is surely little harm in Rafa Benitez making him a part of the Newcastle squad that will tackle the Premier League next season – perhaps immediately loaning him out to gain some more experience – or Gary Rowett bringing him to Derby to help put an unspectacular campaign behind them in the Championship.
