Back in 2018, Lionel Messi once claimed that Juventus star Paulo Dybala plays in exactly the same way. Fast forward four years, and both Newcastle and Arsenal ‘have moved’ to sign the Argentine on a free transfer.
Dybala, 28, is out of contract at the end of the season – with Juventus failing in their attempts to extend his contract. That is despite captaining the Old Lady in 16 of his 30 appearances, in which he has a hand in 19 goals.
Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport report that Inter are leading the way in the race to get Dybala – as they look to bring in a replacement for the linked-away Lautaro Martinez. But Arsenal and Newcastle are also keen.
It would be an incredible signing for either club to lure Dybala to the Premier League. Not least, because Messi told Fox Sports – as per Goal – that he once claimed Dybala “plays just like me” at Juventus.
Messi on Dybala: Which club should he join – Arsenal or Newcastle?
Newcastle have the finances to be able to convince Dybala over a move. They could offer the Juventus star an enormous contract. But with Dybala still only 28, he should not end his years of Champions League football.
Arsenal still have a chance of finishing in fourth, and even failing that this season, they stand a much better chance of qualifying for the competition than Newcastle do in the next few seasons. The Emirates is his best move.
