Newcastle United want Amine Gouiri but the Nice attacker is likely to be too expensive for the Magpies this summer.

Newcastle have now secured three key signings this summer with a strong focus on Eddie Howe’s back line.

Left back Matt Targett has secured a permanent move after impressing on loan from Aston Villa in the second half of last season.

Goalkeeper Nick Pope and defender Sven Botman have also arrived at Newcastle, bolstering Howe’s defensive setup for next season and beyond.

Attacking reinforcements will be wanted too but some targets are proving rather difficult to sign.

Newcastle United want Amine Gouiri

Newcastle have been chasing Reims hitman Hugo Ekitike but that deal looks unlikely.

Moussa Diaby will be very expensive and Everton may not sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin having just sold Richarlison to Tottenham.

Newcastle need to turn elsewhere but a deal for Nice star Amine Gouiri now seems tricky as well.

The Northern Echo claim that Newcastle want Nice forward Gouiri but sense that the asking price will be way beyond them this summer.

Gouiri, 22, excelled for Nice this past season, racking up 12 goals and 10 assists across all competitions.

Mostly a striker or left-sided winger who can cut in on his right foot, Gouiri would have given Newcastle a versatile attacking threat.

Yet with Nice under no pressure to sell, they seem to be demanding enormous money for the former Lyon man who has been tabbed as the ‘new Karim Benzema’.

The Frenchman has a huge future ahead of him and it looks like his valuation will just continue to rise and rise over the coming years.

Newcastle may have plenty of money under PIF’s reign, but they won’t be held to ransom and will have strict valuations on their targets.

Gouiri is one of them where Newcastle may well fancy signing him, but the exorbitant fee needed just doesn’t represent the value for money they’re seeking right now.
