Newcastle United have been thrashed 4-0 by Leicester City today, with Alan Shearer offering a scathing verdict on the performance.

Leicester 4-0 Newcastle – how did it happen?

Newcastle were at least in the game at 0-0, but it all turned on a first-half penalty decision.

James Maddison won a penalty despite appearing to go down under little contact.

Youri Tielemans scored from the spot, and the floodgates opened after the break.

Harvey Barnes teed up Patson Daka for 2-0, before Tielemans added his second and Leicester’s third.

Daka then found Maddison for 4-0, completing Newcastle’s humiliation at the King Power Stadium.

Shearer far from happy with Newcastle collapse

Newcastle hero Alan Shearer was always in danger of getting some stick in this one.

Friend and Match of the Day colleague Gary Lineker is a big Leicester fan, and of course tried to wind Shearer up.

Lineker tweeted that his thoughts were with Shearer, with the Newcastle legend responded by saying that the Maddison penalty decision was a ‘joke’.

Shearer was though brutally honest about Newcastle, claiming it was ‘polite’ to just call them ‘woeful’.

Shearer later tweeted just one word about Newcastle – ‘rubbish’ – which many fans would agree with tonight.
