Alan Shearer has hailed Kieran Trippier after the Newcastle United star turned in another strong performance against Brentford on Saturday.

The Magpies were in red-hot form on Saturday afternoon as they hammered Brentford 5-1 at St James’ Park.

Bruno Guimaraes and Jacob Murphy had Newcastle 2-0 up before Ivan Toney threatened to spark a revival with a goal back for the Bees.

However, Bruno Guimaraes quickly restored Newcastle’s two-goal advantage before Miguel Almiron and an Ethan Pinnock own goal sealed it for Eddie Howe’s men.

Alan Shearer has hailed Kieran Trippier

The goalscoring was sparked by Kieran Trippier swinging in a superb cross for Bruno Guimaraes to head past David Raya.

We have come to expect outstanding crossing from Trippier over the years and Newcastle are now utilising that perfectly.

Of all Premier League defenders this season, Trippier has the most key passes – passes directly leading to a shot – with 18.

That’s four more than Trent Alexander-Arnold and twice as many as Manchester City star Joao Cancelo.

Trippier has also racked up 32 accurate crosses this season which is the most of any Premier League defender; even any Premier League player.

Alexander-Arnold has notched 21, James Ward-Prowse 20 and Kevin De Bruyne 19; that just demonstrates Trippier’s ability from out wide.

We can expect to see more crossing and more assists from Trippier moving forward, possibly even at the World Cup in Qatar.

Injuries to Kyle Walker and Trent Alexander-Arnold may mean Trippier ends up in a straight fight with Reece James at right back.

Alan Shearer has now moved to praise Trippier, simply tweeting four words about the former Atletico Madrid star; ‘England’s best full back’.

On current form, you can certainly understand Shearer’s statement and there is still plenty more to come from the 32-year-old moving forward.
