The Evening Chronicle have reported on their live transfer blog (10:03am) that Neil Redfearn has joined Newcastle United’s Under-23 coaching staff alongside manager Ben Dawson – after his Liverpool exit.
Redfearn, 53, lasted one match in charge of Liverpool FC Women before resigning last month, which came in the form of a 5-0 hammering by Arsenal.
A journeyman throughout his playing career, Redfearn turned out for 20 different clubs including the likes of Bolton Wanderers, Bradford City, Barnsley, Charlton Athletic and Doncaster Rovers.
He then went into coaching and first became manager of Leeds United after a number of caretaker spells, before being sacked. He joined Rotherham United, and then Doncaster Women, before joining Liverpool.
It remains to be seen in what capacity Redfearn has joined Newcastle, with early signs appearing to be that he has joined the Under-23 set-up as one of Dawson’s coaches.
Known for his reputation in developing young players – something which he did at Leeds and was instrumental to the rise of Thorp Arch – Newcastle will be hoping he can further the development of their up-and-coming stars.
