Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are not giving up on signing reported Liverpool transfer target Darwin Nunez from Benfica, according to The Sunday People (22/5; page 50).
The report has claimed that despite Nunez looking to join a club who will play in the Champions League next season, Newcastle are determined to convince the striker to move to St. James’ Park in the summer transfer window.
It was only last week that RMC Sport reported that the 22-year-old has turned down potential moves to Manchester United and Newcastle because of lack of Champions League football.
Well-known and well-respected journalist Melissa Reddy has told Sky Sports Liverpool are keen on the Uruguay international striker, who earns £31,000 per week as salary at Benfica (SalarySport).
Could Newcastle sign Liverpool target Darwin Nunez?
In our opinion, Newcastle United are going to find it tough to sign Darwin Nunez, especially if Liverpool make a bid.

Liverpool are a very appealing team to play for, and if they win the Champions League this coming weekend, then they will become even more attractive.
Yes, Newcastle have wealthy owners and are an established club in the Premier League, but the Magpies are unlikely to challenge for the top four anytime soon.
Nunez is one of the best young strikers in Europe who has just finished a really superb season.
The 22-year-old scored 26 goals and gave four assists in the Portuguese league this campaign.
Nunez also scored six goals in the Champions League this season.
