Earlier today, it was announced that Aleksandr Mitrovic had been nominated for the Championship Player of the Season award.
The Serbian – who Rafa Benitez sold to Fulham in 2018 – has shone since leaving Newcastle, and has enjoyed a simply remarkable campaign this term.
What’s the story?
Well, the 27-year-old has already smashed the record for most goals in a Championship season, and he still has six games remaining.
Mitrovic has somehow managed to score 38 goals in 38 games in the Championship this term, while also providing seven assists.
In doing so, the towering frontman obliterated ex-Newcastle man Ivan Toney’s record of 31 goals in a Championship season, which he set with Brentford last term.

Mitrovic is joined by Bournemouth marksman Dominic Solanke and Fulham maestro Harry Wilson on the list of nominees.
Newcastle should re-sign Aleksandr Mitrovic
After Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi replaced Mike Ashley at the helm, the Magpies can afford to sign almost any player in Europe.
As things stand, Eddie Howe can choose from Callum Wilson, Chris Wood and Dwight Gayle in the centre-forward department, as well as Joelinton if he opts to take him away from his new midfield role.
With all due respect, those aren’t fantastic options, so perhaps a move for Mitrovic should be explored.

Having said that, Fulham are set to return to the Premier League as they sit ten points clear at the top of the Championship, and they certainly wont want to lose their talisman.
If a reasonable fee can be agreed, then we see no reason why the Magpies shouldn’t re-sign the former Anderlecht poacher this summer.
