Victor Wembanyama became the center of an early Game 3 controversy after New York Knicks fans thought Jalen Brunson took contact to the back of the head without a whistle.

The Knicks and San Antonio Spurs were still settling into the first quarter of the NBA Finals matchup when the moment began spreading online.

In a game already loaded with tension, any missed call involving Brunson was always going to draw an instant reaction. What made this one stand out was the area of contact.

Knicks fans saw Wembanyama’s hand come down toward Brunson’s head, then watched the play continue without a foul, review, or flagrant discussion.

Victor Wembanyama’s contact on Jalen Brunson sparks New York Knicks’ anger

Dunk Central shared the first-quarter moment from Knicks vs Spurs Game 3 of the NBA Finals, where Victor Wembanyama appeared to hit Jalen Brunson in the back of the head.

The most surprising part for Knicks fans was not only the contact itself, but the lack of a whistle. Wembanyama appeared to shove Brunson in the back of the head, yet the officials did not call a foul, let alone stop play for a possible flagrant review.

That mattered because head and neck contact usually draws extra attention from viewers, especially in a Finals game.

Even if officials decide a play is incidental, which it wasn’t, fans expect that kind of moment to at least be checked when it looks forceful in real time.

Instead, the sequence became another officiating flashpoint in a series already being watched closely on every possession.

Knicks fans did not wait for an official explanation before unloading on Wembanyama. One reaction read, “Wemby is DIRTY!” while another added, “He gets away with this at least once a game.”

The anger only grew because Brunson was the player involved. One fan wrote, “That punk should be booted from the NBA, period.” Another kept it blunt with, “I hate this guy.”

The biggest complaint centered on the lack of review, with one fan asking, “How does that not get reviewed for a hostile act?”

That question captured the frustration around the clip. Knicks fans did not just see a hard moment involving their star guard; they saw a no-call that made Wembanyama’s physicality look protected on the NBA Finals stage.
