The promising defenders are currently on loan at City’s sister club until the end of the MLS season.

New York City FC head coach Jason Kreis has told EmpireofSoccer.com that he hopes to have Manchester City loanees Shay Facey and Angelino back at the club next season.

Facey, 20, originally joined NYCFC on a four-month loan deal in March before eventually having his spell extended until the end of the 2015 MLS season after breaking into the expansion side’s starting line-up.

The promising defender has so far made 17 starts in 20 appearances for the club and, while he struggled to begin with while filling in at right-back, he has come on in leaps and bounds since moving to centre-half in June.

18-year-old Angelino, meanwhile, has started nine games since joining the team in July for the rest of the campaign and offered a much-needed attacking spark on the left flank with his pace, dribbling skills and deliveries.

The Spanish full-back and Facey are both highly-regarded back at City but, with the offer of regular first-team football, Kreis is hoping that their sister club will allow the pair to return to the USA for 2016.

“I would like them to stay,” Kreis told the New York-based website. “There’s no doubt that from our point of view, from New York City’s point of view, we would like them to stay, no doubt.

“I think they’re both fantastic people and they’re obviously both very, very talented players with a very high level of potential. At the end of the day, when I took this job, one of my goals is to be a part of the development of some special players.”

With Facey and Angelino likely to be restricted to Elite Development Squad duty back at the Etihad Stadium in the immediate future, it’s hard to argue with Kreis given the recent improvement the two defenders have made with regular action in the States.

City may want Angelino, who is widely regarded as the more promising player, to be loaned out to a more competitive league for the second half of the 2015-16 season but, for the moment, his MLS spell seems to be doing him the world of good.
