The ex-Aston Villa boss took the reins at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
New Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Paul Lambert has defended his spell at West Midlands rivals Aston Villa, via the Birmingham Mail.
Lambert spent two-and-a-half seasons at Villa Park, but was sacked in February 2015 with the club 18th in the Premier League.

Villa survived under Lambert’s successor Tim Sherwood, but find themselves a Championship side little over 18 months on.
As far as the Scot is concerned, his time at Villa should be deemed a success given the circumstances, adding that his spell there has taught him to “never protect anybody like I did there” ever again.
“I obviously left (Norwich) and went to a great club like Aston Villa,” Lambert said, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail. “Obviously difficult things there.
“I certainly wouldn’t do that again and protect people they way I did protect them.
“Then the club spends money after I leave and finds itself getting relegated. Just shows you I did not do too bad a job there if you look at it.”

Asked to clarify what he meant by his comments, the Wolves boss added: “Everyone knows the situation at Villa.
“I would never go into a press conference every Thursday or Friday and talk the same drivel I spoke for three years.
“That’s what I mean by that. I certainly won’t put it on my own shoulders again that’s for sure. Other people have got to look at it.”
According to Wolves sporting director Kevin Thelwell, when interviewed by BBC West Midlands on Monday, Lambert is in for a smoother ride at Molineux.
Despite fears over the influence of super agent Jorge Mendes, Thelwell insists Lambert will be consulted about all aspects of the football club and have the power to veto any suggested transfers.
Wolves acquired several Mendes-linked stars during the summer transfer window, including club-record signing Ivan Cavaleiro.
