West Ham United’s newest signing Jonathan Calleri has told the club’s official website that he intends to ask Carlos Tevez for advice about playing for the Hammers.

With manager Slaven Bilic hitting a brick wall in his attempts to land a big-name striker, West Ham made what could be a smart move as they snapped up Calleri on loan.

The 22-year-old striker made his name with Boca Juniors, scoring 23 goals in 59 games for the Argentinian giants before earning a strange third party move to Uruguay with Deportivo Maldonado.

Calleri was farmed out on loan to Brazilian side Sao Paulo, and having scored 16 goals in just 31 games, he was signed by West Ham in another loan move from Deportivo Maldonado.

With West Ham enduring something of a striking crisis after injuries to Andy Carroll and Andre Ayew, Calleri started against Astra Giurgiu in the Europa League last week, and came on as a substitute against Bournemouth for his Premier League debut on Sunday.

The young striker looked bright and should’ve scored with a late chance, and Hammers fans will hope that Calleri goes on to have as much success in East London as his compatriot Carlos Tevez did.

Calleri played alongside Tevez – who was a fan favourite during his one year as a West Ham player – at Boca Juniors, and has now told the West Ham official website that he intends to speak to Tevez in the next week to aid his transition to English football.

Calleri added that he’s finding it hard to express himself as he would like due to the language barrier, but feels his English is improving as he settles in to life at the London Stadium.

“I still haven’t spoken to Carlos (Tevez) about the Club, but I think we will speak in the next week or so and then we can chat about his time here,” said Calleri. “I feel very comfortable here and I am really pleased to be at West Ham. I will be trying to move forward as best possible so that I can integrate myself into the team and achieve some great things with this squad.”

“My English is improving, I am trying to listen and I am understanding everything. For the moment, I am struggling to express myself as well as I would like, so I will work hard and study English so that I can speak to the level where I want to be,” he added.

Do you think Calleri will be a success at West Ham?
