An expected new contract for Kieran Trippier means Tottenham can hold out until Manchester City meet their valuation of Kyle Walker.
Tottenham’s Kieran Trippier comes on as a substitute to replace Kyle Walker
Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of handing Kieran Trippier a new five-year contract as reward for his fine performances for the club.
The Mirror reports that despite the fact Trippier still has three years to run on his current deal, Mauricio Pochettino is keen to secure the right-back for even longer.
While the 26-year-old’s recent displays will certainly have something to do with it, it is difficult to argue that Kyle Walker’s links with a move away from Spurs hasn’t also played a big part in this decision.
Manchester City are understood to be extremely keen on signing Walker, with the Independent reporting that Tottenham are holding out for £50m for the England international.
And there is no denying that tying Tripper down to a new contract will give them even more power to ensure they receive the fee they want, because they do not have to sell.

Pochettino believes that the ex-Burnley man can make the step up to first choice should Walker leave, so without having to delve into the transfer market themselves, Spurs can simply play the waiting game until City crack or walk away from the deal.
Either way it is a pleasing position for Daniel Levy and the club as a whole to be in, especially when they have been somewhat backed into sales in the past.
