Fabio Paratici has told Tottenham Hotspur’s website that they will not put any undue pressure on new signing Jude Soonsup-Bell after the teenage striker arrived at Spurs from Chelsea in the January window – on a permanent deal.

The 19-year-old talent joins Spurs after talks over a new deal broke down. The England U18 international felt as though there was little chance of a breakthrough into Chelsea’s senior side. His deal at Stamford Bridge was ending in June.

So, Spurs moved. He signed a contract in North London until the summer of 2025. Now, his aim will be to become a regular in the 21’s, and perhaps, earn a loan move away from the club in the next window to gain first-team football.

Paratici was asked about the signing of Soonsup-Bell in his latest interview with Tottenham’s website. He says that while the striker is one of the best talents in English football, he believes it is key not to put too much pressure on him.

“He is a big talent who was always a big talent in England and when we got the opportunity to sign him, we signed him. We don’t have to put a lot of pressure on these young players,” Paratici said when asked about Soonsup-Bell.

Tottenham’s sporting director continued: “I think the most important thing for them is to get the right time to be under pressure about delivering but have the right time to grow up and be calm, be better and improve their skills.”

It was a surprise signing that came out of the blue. But a real signal of intent – both for Tottenham moving forward, and a damning take give on Chelsea’s recruitment system. Too many signings at top level is putting off their youth.

But for Soonsup-Bell – and the likes of Jamie Donley, Alfie Devine, Will Lankshear and plenty more – there is time. Time on their side to break into Tottenham’s side and given the club are not spending like Chelsea, more chance of it.
