The Tottenham Hotspur sensation recently put pen to paper on a new deal but fans are desperate to see him play.

As reported by the London Evening Standard earlier this summer, Tottenham Hotspur teenager Marcus Edwards has committed to the club until the summer of 2020. But while that is obviously great news for Spurs fans, it is time manager Mauricio Pochettino put faith in the diminutive midfielder.

Edwards has been hailed as the next big thing for years now, and while it would have been foolish to get carried away when he was in his early teens, he is now ready to step up.

While the likes of Harry Winks, Josh Onomah, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Kyle Walker-Peters have all got chances to impress over the last 12 months, Edwards has still only managed a single 15-minute cameo in the EFL Cup, and his exploits for England’s under-19s earlier this summer meant he missed out on Tottenham’s pre-season tour of the United States.

With injury also curtailing his progress last season, his lack of chances at Spurs has been down to bad luck as much as anything else. Yet now he is fit and ready to go, he deserves some chances in the early months of the upcoming campaign.

No one is suggesting Tottenham thrust Edwards into the starting XI this weekend. But their participation in four competitions means opportunities will be there if Pochettino deems him worthy.

Spurs fans can at least rest easy now that their teenage sensation will remain in North London for at least the next three years. However they will be desperate to see him play.

One can only hope that we are not looking back next summer on another season where Edwards was talked about for his promise rather than his first-team showings.
