Tammy Abraham’s loan spell has not quite gone to plan so far, but the new manager would be well advised to give him a key role.
Carlos Carvalhal will know changes must be made at Swansea City as he prepares to take charge of his first Premier League match away at Watford.
The Swans are bottom of the league table and look destined for relegation without a significant turnaround.
And one man whose demise has coincided with Swansea’s this season is Tammy Abraham, the exciting loan signing from Chelsea who has lost his place in the side in recent weeks.
Yet the England international has still managed to find the net four times this term and Carvalhal, of all people, will be well aware of his quality.
Abraham scored three goals against Carvalhal’s Sheffield Wednesday while on loan at Bristol City last season, netting 23 times in total in the Championship.
Swansea have little choice but to rely on Abraham right now, but the forward could benefit from a manager who is willing to show him a little faith and it could be that Carvalhal can inspire the forward to rediscover the form that stung his Wednesday side.
While Abraham is now plying his trade in a tougher division, he is quite capable of firing Swansea to safety if his golden touch returns in front of goal.
That must be Carvalhal’s great hope before he is able to get any transfer business done.
