As most Leeds fans will know, Marcelo Bielsa and Patrick Bamford shared a special relationship at Elland Road.

The pair quite obviously shared a strong working bond, to the point where the Argentine ran across the pitch at Thorp Arch to embrace the England international after he scored a wondergoal in training.

Now, Bamford has spoken to The Athletic about the South American’s departure earlier this year.

What’s the story?

Well, the Leeds No.9 has shared a story which will surely make Leeds fans cry.

Bamford revealed that Bielsa decided against saying goodbye to everybody at Thorp Arch as he knew he would be emotional, before he simply left the premises, meaning players had to find their own way of saying farewell.

The 28-year-old then obtained the 67-year-old’s address, and went to say goodbye on his doorstep.

However, there was a language barrier between the pair. When asked what was actually said at Bielsa’s house, Bamford told The Athletic: “He just gave me a massive hug. I mean, like a 20-second hug.”

Emotional, to say the least.

Clearly, the two of them shared a special bond, and it pained Bamford to see Bielsa depart.

Whatever Bielsa did with Bamford at Thorp Arch worked wonders, as the £7m man impressively scored 17 Premier League goals in the 2020/21 campaign, which certainly isn’t easy.

The Englishman has only made four appearances under Jesse Marsch so far, but on the evidence of what we’ve seen so far, Leeds can score plenty of goals under the American.

Even in games Leeds have lost under Marsch, the goals have flowed, so with a clinical finisher like Bamford up top alongside creative players like Brenden Aaronson and Luis Sinisterra, we see no reason why he can’t match the numbers he hit under Bielsa.
