When West Ham United signed Lukasz Fabianski in the summer it went somewhat under the radar.

Manuel Pellegrini manager

West Ham were busy in the summer, first bringing in Premier League winning manager Manuel Pellegrini and then backing him with £100 million to spend.

The Chilean used £7 million of that warchest to bring Poland goalkeeper Fabianski to West Ham from relegated Swansea City.

With the likes of record £40 million signing Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko, Issa Diop and Jack Wilshere arriving too Hammers fans could be forgiven for not paying too much attention to a former Arsenal back-up ‘keeper who had just been part of a side that was relegated.

Indeed many Hammers fans questioned whether Fabianski was any better than Adrian.

But not only has Fabianski proved to be arguably West Ham’s best summer signing so far and an absolute bargain, he is also proving to be the best in the entire Premier League in his position.

That’s according to the Premier League’s official statistics which show Fabianski has made the most saves with 36 in the eight games so far.

While that does not say much about the solidity of the team in front of him, it does prove pundits’ pre-season predictions correct after the likes of Paul Merson, Dean Ashton and Charlie Nicholas waxed lyrical about the Poland international.

“Lukasz Fabianski was great last season and I like their business,” Merson told Sky Sports over the summer.

Former Hammers favourite Ashton agreed telling The Express: “Fabianski is a great signing, I’ve rated him for a few years and he almost kept Swansea up at times with his performances.”

And Gunners legend Nicholas, who saw plenty of Fabianski during his time at the Emirates, concurred.

“The big question is whether they’ve improved at the back and I think Lukasz Fabianski is a fabulous signing,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.

The statistic may be tempered by the fact it means Fabianski is facing an unwelcome number of shots from the opposition every game.

But he still has to save them.

And he has proved better at that than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League, some achievement given the quality he is up against.

He is fast becoming a fan favourite at the London Stadium and this statistic shows why.
