Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion’s quest to clinch promotion to the Premier League have reportedly just received a boost.

According to The Times, a growing number of clubs in the Championship for pushing for the season to be curtailed and the final standings decided on a points-per-game system.

The report has claimed that the top two teams would then be automatically promoted to the Premier League, with the third and final spot to be decided via a playoff.

Football in England is suspended at the moment due to the global health crisis.

Plan would work for Leeds United

Under the reportedly proposed system, both Leeds and West Brom would go up, as they are first and second respectively in the standings at the moment.

The Whites and the Baggies have been the best teams in the Championship so far this season, and they would have probably finished in the automatic promotion places anyway.

Things are quite uncertain at the moment, and one suspects that there will be no solution how to end the season anytime soon.
