According to The Daily Star, the takeover of Newcastle United will be announced imminently.
It has been reported that the takeover of the Premier League club will be formally announced by the end of next week.
The Sun reported on May 2 that the change of ownership was expected to go through this week, but that has not been the case.
Prospective new owners
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) will own 80% of Newcastle, Amanda Staveley and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi will have a 10% share in the club, and the Reuben brothers – Simon and David – will have a 10% stake as well, according to The Times.
Bright future
Newcastle are an established club in the Premier League, and are unlikely to get relegated to the Championship at the end of the season – if and when the campaign gets back underway.
With the right investment in the next two or three transfer windows, the Magpies could be challenging for the European places.
For now, the St. James’ Park faithful should be optimistic about the future and should stay patient, as there may not be radical changes overnight once the proposed takeover goes through.
Football in England is suspended at the moment, and it remains to be seen if and when the season resumes.
