New report claims Mike Ashley’s Newcastle United transfer budget this summer

According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley will hand manager Steve Bruce £35 million to spend on new players in the summer transfer window.

The report has added that Ashley will also give Bruce whatever money Newcastle can raise from sales of players this summer.

Bruce is confident of making two or three permanent transfers this summer, and he is also looking to bring players on loan, according to the report.

Need for a striker

A transfer kitty of £35 million is not really much, and it will be interesting to see if Bruce is able to do some good business with it.

True, sales of players could add some more money to the transfer funds, but even then it would not look massive.

One key area that Newcastle have to address is the striking department. Joelinton struggled this past season, as the Brazilian striker scored just two goals in 38 Premier League matches, according to WhoScored.

It will not be easy for the Magpies to attract a top-quality striker to St. James’ Park this summer, and the scouting department will have to come up with someone who will not cost much and will still deliver the goods.
