Interest from Leeds United
The Times reported in August that Leeds are interested in signing Batshuayi from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
The report claimed that the Whites, who will play in the Premier League this season after winning automatic promotion from the Championship, were considering ‘stepping up interest’ in the Belgium international striker.
Chelsea’s plan
The Sun has now reported that Chelsea will offer the 26-year-old an extension to his current contract and then send him out on loan.
This way, according to the British tabloid, the Blues will not lose the striker for nothing next summer when he is out of contract.
The report has added that under the new terms, Batshuayi will earn £100,000 per week as salary, and any club taking him on loan would have to pay most of that for this season.
Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion are interested in the former Marseille striker, according to The Sun.
Good news for Leeds United?
A loan deal for Batshuayi – who is described as ‘a powerful, fast striker’ on Chelsea’s official website – would make more sense than signing him on a permanent contract.
While Leeds have signed Rodrigo and they also have Patrick Bamford in their squad, the Whites could do with another established striker.
Batshuayi worked with Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa at Marseille, and he also knows the Premier League well.
