Aston Villa could reportedly be set to be bought out by Peter B Freund, with their financial problems worsening.

A general view of Villa Park ahead of the Sky Bet Championship match between Aston Villa and Reading at Villa Park on April 15, 2017 in Birmingham, England.

According to a report in The Times, American businessman Peter B Freund is interested in buying Aston Villa.

Freund is reportedly prepared to offer Tony Xia £75 million for Villa, who are struggling badly with their finances.

Villa have overspent trying to achieve promotion, and their failure to win the play offs means that wholesale changes are going to have to be made this summer.

Dr Tony Xia, Chairman of Aston Villa walks the pitch during the Sky Bet Championship match between Aston Villa and Birmingham City at Villa Park on April 23, 2017 in Birmingham, England.

The claret and blues have allegedly missed a £4 million tax bill, which has caused chief executive Keith Wyness to be suspended.

Freund now apparently is keen to come and try add some stability to Villa by purchasing the club.

And eagle eyed Villa fans have already spotted a sign that he could be interested in buying the club.

Freund has only recently started following both Villa and John Terry on Instagram, suggesting that he has been following their progress from afar.

It seems that there is still some way to go before any takeover deal is completed, but Freund may have offered a clue on social media that he is indeed keen on being in charge at Villa Park.
